Land Acknowledgement for Kāne‘ohe and Ko‘olau Ballrooms
As we gather at Ko‘olau Ballrooms in Kāne‘ohe, Hawai‘i, we acknowledge the sacred and ancestral lands upon which we convene. We extend our deepest respect to the native people of this place, the Kanaka Maoli, whose connection to this ‘āina (land) predates the establishment of this venue.
Kāne‘ohe, nestled in the embrace of the majestic Ko‘olau mountain range, has been a site of cultural, historical, and ecological significance for generations. The area's lush landscapes and pristine waters have sustained communities and provided a foundation for life's essential elements.
We acknowledge and honor the Kanaka Maoli as the original stewards of this land, recognizing their enduring connection and responsibility to care for it. Their rich cultural heritage and traditions are interwoven with the very fabric of Kāne‘ohe and its surroundings.
Ko‘olau Ballrooms, situated in this culturally vibrant and ecologically diverse region, is a place where we come together to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and work towards a healthier, more equitable future. In this spirit, we express gratitude for the opportunity to gather on this ‘āina and commit to respecting and protecting its sanctity.
As we move forward, let this land acknowledgment serve as a reminder of the interconnectedness between people, places, and the ongoing journey towards understanding and reconciliation. Our commitment is to learn, listen, and engage with respect and understanding. May our time together be grounded in the principles of aloha, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to a sustainable and just future.
